Scheme now skirting Southsea Castle
Work at Frontage 4, which sees the creation of a breath-taking new promenade at Southsea Castle, will really ramp up from Monday as the Southsea Coastal Scheme starts in earnest at the next phase. Work is expected to last for an estimated two years, but with updates here, the Project Information Centre at Pier Road and plenty of viewing platforms around the area we will make sure you are kept up-to-date with all the exciting developments.
No climbing
We have installed all the parapet units on the east side of the work this week. A good question from the Project Information Centre this week: Why are wall units sloped on one side? Answer: The sloped design of the units is to discourage climbing on the wall.
Fill me in
We are backfilling the area behind the landward pile line ready for the new promenade to be placed on top. Recycled beach material is placed in 75cm layers and compacted with a plate compacter to stabilise it.
