Weekly update – 22 October 2021

Blowing a hooley

Great progress despite the inclement weather this week! We couldn’t resist the chance to take some photos as the defences got one of their first tastes of the strong, saltwater winds.

Lift off!

The pre-cast apron and wall panels weighing 10 to 12 tonnes each continued to be lifted and placed to the west of the Spur Redoubt between the two pile lines (a pile line is a steel wall created by driving piles into the ground). Site engineer Sam stands on the two apron units we fitted earlier in the week. These two look a different colour than the newly installed one as they had already had a good soaking from the rain!

Step by step

The eastern egress steps are really taking shape this week with a fourth concrete pour to the reinforcements – which completes the outer structure of the staircase.  After weeks of watching the steps being created section by section it will be great to see them when they are complete at last.

THANK YOU!

Thank you to everyone who has come and supported the Scheme at the Project Information Centre over the last few weeks – it has been a pleasure to meet so many of you expressing interest and keen to know more….come back soon!
