Out of the bath(s)

We’ve unearthed a piece of stamped pottery from the Southsea Baths & Assembly Rooms, dating back to 1871! The find was made in the backfill of a SSE duct pit just outside our Long Curtain Moat site boundary as the Baths & Assembly Rooms existed where the Brewers’ Fayre pub and Premier Inn are now located.

We are pleased to have Wessex Archaeology on site to advise us on such finds and also thank our ground workers from Volkerstevin who made the discovery. Read more about the history of the buildings.

Light fantastic!

All the lighting columns to the east of Long Curtain Moat have been installed. There are three 10m lamp posts in the Clarence Pier carpark and two 10m lighting columns near the Brewers’ Fayre pub. These lights have round columns and will illuminate large areas.

Shining a light on history

Illuminated bollards on the promenade area around Spur Redoubt will shine a light over the historic walls that were uncovered during earlier works in this area. They will also light your way on the new promenade which will give a great view of the historic walls.

We’ve got the power!

You know work is drawing to an end when final milestones start to be hit. This week saw SSE connecting power at our Long Curtain Moat frontage so you’ll be able to see in the dark when we open this area in late-February! The photo shows the light switched on in our new seating along the promenade.
