Weekly update – 21 October 2022

Between a rock…

We’ve had a few queries about our ongoing rock work, which was initially due to finish in September. We are now importing rock from Norway until December/January for use in future construction near Southsea Common, known as Frontage 3 of the Scheme.

We are taking our rock delivery early in order to ensure we remain on track with our scheduled project delivery. This will of course result in less disruption of this nature in 2023. We expect that rocks will be delivered twice a week during the next three months.

As we need to take tidal conditions into consideration, some deliveries are unavoidably scheduled outside daylight hours to work around the tides. We continue to monitor noise levels around site and our records show that noise levels are within the allowable limits set out in the project’s licences and consents.

Moving out and up

You’ll be pleased to hear that over on Frontage 4 (Southsea Castle) we have finished phase one of our rock installation. The large excavators are now moving off site until the second phase of rock work commences next year. Also in this area work has started on constructing the lower promenade wall that will be the primary flood defence around the castle.

It’s pouring…

Over at Frontage 1 (Long Curtain Moat) work continues on pouring concrete slabs for the new and improved promenade. In addition, much-needed new decking has been installed on the Sallyport Bridge.
